Inspiration

As any creative will tell you, inspiration comes in many forms. It may be something we see or hear. It may be an errant thought that creeps slowly through the mind, or hit us like a tsunami. However it strikes, it always leads to something original.

I never know when something will inspire a new idea for me. Usually, for my writing, it’s something I see or hear in a song, movie, or television show. The Realm Jumper Chronicles was born to answer questions I had watching the Lord of the Rings movies. Yeah, my mind can’t just accept what it sees, it is always questioning. Sometimes that can be good, such as when it gives rise to the stories I wrote, other times not so much as it can lead to worry and anxiety. Still, as long as it fuels my creative endeavors, it’s all good.

As I was writing the Realm Jumper Chronicles, characters in that series, started inspiring other stories. Like before, questions started forming in my mind that led to my need to answer them. This led to the creation of the Witch Hunters’ Society story and a new paranormal two-volume series that will release this year and next.

Another way inspiration can strike is through the prompting of others. For example, my Raven’s Twisted Classics series was born through another author asking the question, “What two stories would you mashup and what would you name it?” As a joke I replied with “Alice in Wonderland and Robin Hood and I’d call it Down the Rabbit Hole.” I never intended to write it, but this author friend kept urging me to do so. Then, one day the inspiration for the story came and I wrote it. When I was finished, I immediately had an idea for another mashup and the series was born.

But the inspiration didn’t stop there. As I write more of these twisted classics, I’m inspired to create new “faerytales for a modern age”. I’ve got ideas for new faerytale style stories that will eventually be written and added to the collection.

My latest inspiration has come from binge-watching the TV series Grimm. I’m inspired to re-read the Grimm’s Fairytales and twist them into something new and fresh. It is my wish that these new faerytales will inspire a love of reading in the next generations to come.

When it comes to my jewelry, I’m inspired by my characters as well as beads and other elements I find along the way. What started out as a simple hobby has now expanded my brand. I hope those who purchase the pieces are as inspired by them as I was to make them. I’m now hoping to expand my skills and create even more inspirational pieces in the future.

Inspiration is all around us. All it takes is opened-minds, hearts, eyes, and ears to receive it. Be open and you’ll find it.

In the meantime, I’ll see you in my Mystic Realms.

Raven
