I Killed off one of my Characters and here’s why…

In actuality, I’ve killed a lot of people in the course of my writings over the last few years. Some were just brief characters whose sole purpose was to be killed to achieve a goal of the main character. You’ll learn more about them in upcoming short stories or novels that will be published next year.

Since I can’t talk about them without giving anything away, I guess I will have to focus on the two I killed off in the first and second books of the Realm Jumper Chronicles. So, let’s start with the one who died in Elven-Jumper.

For those who have read Elven-Jumper, you know the antagonist was one of the Sun Elves who forsook balance and completely gave into darkness. I doing so, he planned to increase the number of Dark Elves, so he could overthrow the Light Elves and take over the Elven homeworld of Paer-Jhysael.

In carrying out his plans, Syndonwyn was captured. When his son, Syndaxyn, sent other Dark Elves to free him, Syndonwyn and all but one of the Dark Elves were killed. The reason behind killing off Syndonwyn was to make the Light Elves think the danger was gone and to push Syndaxyn further into Darkness and to abandon his father’s plans for something even more maddening.

In Elf-Witch, that is exactly what happened. Syndaxyn foregoes all the plans his father had made and embarks on his own path of revenge. In doing so, he learns of a Dragon-Shifter lord who is just as mad and full of darkness as he is, and aligns with him to bring about the revenge he seeks.

In the process of carrying out their dark plans, they learn of a rogue coven and even more nefarious plotting going on and Deventh, the Dragon-Shifter decides he no longer needs Syndaxyn and kills him. But, in the end, even Deventh had to die to push his son, Mylanth over the edge. When that occurs, even more dark deeds come into play in subsequent books as well as the introduction of more dark characters, evil deeds, and murders in Elven-Fire.

While I’d like to tell you more, I can’t as that would give away the whole premise of the series. Suffice it to say, there are more killings in Elven Dreams, the fourth book, that drive the plot of the series forward. There are also lots of murders in novelettes that give the back story of certain characters in the Realm Jumper Chronicles. They are part of a dark fairytale collection, Haunted by Darkness. I won’t go into details about them. Wouldn’t want to give away anything, you know.

Then, there is the new dark, paranormal story, Witch Hunters’ Society, which also has lots of killings. What can I say, I have some really evil characters. However, the reason is always the same for the deaths, to drive the story forward.
