Dark Shadowy Demon

I was part of a blog prompts group on Facebook, when I wrote this. It resulted from the following prompt: “Your antagonist showed up in your dreams and this is what happened....”

To be totally honest, my main antagonist has taken two turns since I started writing my series. In the first book, Elven-Jumper, the antagonists took the form of a Dark Elves duo of father and son. The father died in the first book, leaving his son to seek revenge.

In the second book, Elf-Witch, events occurred that led the remaining Dark Elf to seek an alliance with a Dragon-Shifter who may or may not have turned rogue. Needless to say, the alliance didn’t go so well for either of them. This in turn, left the Dragon-Shifter’s son seeking revenge.

Now, in the third book, Elven-Fire, things took a strange turn. Come to find out, everything we’ve learned up to this point, while true, was only partial truth. Out of nowhere, a shadowy demon appears and he becomes the true antagonist of the series, using others to do his dirty work.

I must admit, I’m glad he showed up. While the Dragon-Shifter’s son is a brute, he just didn’t feel evil enough to me. Thanks to this demon, the books are slowly turning more dark and intense. Just when I think I have him figured out, he does something that seems totally out of character. And, up until that point, it would be so. Whenever I sit down to write, I never know what this shadowy creature is going to do next.

He haunts my dreams and waking hours. Not only does he feature prominently in the series, he insisted on having his own Origins story told. He wants to be portrayed as the poor little creature who didn’t have a choice but to become the demon he is today. He wants everyone to feel sorry for him, while he wreaks havoc in the world around him, laughing the whole time.

Anyhoo, in one dream, he was after the heroine in the fourth book, Elven Dreams. So, that’s how Elven-Fire ended and Elven Dreams began. Who am I to argue with one of the central characters? However, as the fourth book progressed, things took another interesting turn.

Now, he wreaks havoc on the War Council as well as among his own rogues.

What will the Demon of Shadows do next? Can he be stopped? You’ll have to continue the journey through books four, five, six, and seven to find out.

Until next time…
